The Montreal Thirumurugan Temple in Dollard-des-Ormeaux will be holding its annual 17-day festival beginning on Saturday. 4th of August 2007 with blessings of Lord Ganeaha - Ganapathy Homan. First day of festival begins with "Kodiyetram" Flag Hoisting Ceremony on Sunday, 5th of August 2007. Each day will feature cultural programs and special "Poojas" (religious services), followed by the deity Lord Murugan and his divine consorts being taken in a procession outside the temple, with devotees singing "Bajans" (devotional songs). On the evening of Friday, August 17th, the deity and his consorts will be carried outside the temple on a 28-foot height "Chapparam" (mount).
The highlight of the festival will be on the morning of Saturday, August 18, 2007 when Lord Murugan will be taken in a procession outside the temple on North America's largest and most elaborately decorated "Ther" (Festival Car - Ratha Yatra). Thousands of Devotees across Canada and United States will be in attendance. The "Ther" festival will then be followed by "Theertham" (Sacred dip) on Sunday the 19th of August 2007, when the deity will be placed on an altar in the middle of a pond for religious ceremonies, and then bathed and submerged three times.
Monday. 20th of August 2007 will be "Poongaavanam" (Divine Jungle of Flowers) when the temple grounds will be decorated with bright lights. Outside the temple, Lord Murugan and his divine consorts will be decorated with all kinds of ornate flowers before being taken in procession around the temple perimeter.
Aside from Montreal, this colourful religious ceremony is also celebrated each year in India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius, The Fiji Islands, England, United States and elsewhere in Canada. We expect your fullest attendance like in the past years and be blessed by the Grace of Lord Murugan For more information about this festival or the Montreal Thirumurugan Temple, please do not hesitate to contact any of the following members: Thank you.
